Brisbane's Best Bush, Bay and City Walks

Welcome to Brisbane’s Best Walks. This site will give you an overview of some of the great places for walking in the Brisbane area.

It also links with Brisbane’s Best Bush, Bay and City Walks by local resident and writer, Dianne McLay, which is available in bookshops.

In Brisbane’s cooler months, mid-year, explore Brisbane’s forest areas.  Try Mt Coot-tha which is only five kilometres west of the city centre. There are panoramic views of the city and Moreton Bay from the summit and plenty of well-defined tracks through the bush.  Brisbane Forest Park headquarters, also west of the CBD, is the starting point for a pretty walk around Enoggera Reservoir. There’s a cafe and nature centre with native animals on site.

During the hotter months, some of the best walking is along Brisbane’s bay side paths which often have cooling breezes coming straight off Moreton Bay.  Pathways along the Brisbane River (including the floating walkway pictured on the book’s front cover) are pleasant in the early morning and late afternoon.

If it looks like rain, take a walk in the CBD to see Brisbane’s historic buildings and public artworks which you’ll find on every street. If it does rain, you can always take a break in a cafe and enjoy the tropical downpour.
